Video Help
Format
- The video formats used are not "streamed", ie they must be fully
downloaded before they can be viewed. However they are short and, unlike
streamed data, are cached by most browsers so further downloading in 30 days
is unecessary.
- The most popular three formats are offered: Real, WinMedia and Flash.
How to choose
- Real is the best quality, especially for 56k dial-up, but some computer
player versions insist on reloading from the web each time you click play.
- WinMedia is becoming a common player to be loaded on new machines as part
of Windows
- Flash is a common enhancement for your web browser. Although the
quality is not quite as good, it does not rely on codecs and other mysterious
hoojits in the operating system.
- Older computers may not be loaded with the software to play any of the
formats available, but they are freely availably. Just click on the
names to be taken to their web sites.
- Use the wizard to select a choice for you. The detection of players, their versions numbers and whether acceptable is
only a guide and may not be correct.
Upgrading
- If your version is too primitive, you may be offered an upgrade
automatically if you wait a minute or so. If you have administration
rights to your computer, you can perform this task.
- Feel free to clock on the names of the formats to load the latest version
manually
56k modems
- If you only have 56k dial-up, you can still select 500k and wait for it to
load to get better quality. The video may be cached and play instantly,
depending on your version.
