Hi, Interesting question. I'm sure there are lots of answers. Here are just a few thoughts. Firstly, one can split the problem into the basic question of alternatives to plodding LRLR etc, which might be termed "technique" and then consider the placement of the legs which is more about "style". On the RLRL alternatives, men have generally more freedom than ladies, as ladies do lots of spins and soon find that they must turn clockwise on their right foot and anticlockwise on their left. To do this they CANNOT just step RLRL between a turn and return. They have to have a step for a while count, a tap, kick, kick-ball change or a triple-step. However, many ladies just do not know they are doing it! These are optional with men. Of course Rock'n'rollers do a toe heel movement. All this is neally impossible to discover from watching, even video on slow motion replay - I've tried! As for style - well this is where you will just have to "let go" and "rip" on a good piece of music and see what happens! I find that some pieces of music just make me go wild, my hands are going all over, taps and kicks and...well my partner usually bursts into laughter, but I'm having a good time! Watching videos may give you some ideas, but ultimately this probably must come from your inner being. Slow music may be better, gives you time to express yourself.
